John Lam - "Unlike NetFlix or Amazon—though they protect user privacy, ultimately they serve private interests—Movielens serves as a collaborative filtering platform for the Groups Lens research team at the University of Minnesota. Because they've accepted National Science Foundation grants for a large portion of their research, they must also abide by its participant research guidelines.
