Social Publishers - FAQ

Posting Ads    back to top

How do I get started creating a sponsored like?

It's simple- Once you have set up your account we will give you a list of sponsors that are relevant to your social profile. Choose one of the sponsors and click the big "Like this" button to start creating a sponsored like. Once you have created a sponsored like and shared it with your audience on Twitter, Tumblr and/or YouTube, we will begin monitoring the number of clicks you receive and pay on a per-click basis.

How much can I earn?

Our payment system is theoretically unlimited, up to the budget set by the advertiser - you get paid for as many views or clicks you receive within the time period of the campaign (typically 1 week for video and 3 days for text). We pay on a per-view or per-click basis. Please note - we employ sophisticated spam-detection technology and have experts on staff that detect click- and view-spam. We will notify you if we detect spam views or clicks on your sponsored like, and will not pay for spam clicks or views.

Where can I publish sponsored likes as a Social Publisher?

Once you create your Sponsored Like you can distribute it in the following 3 ways:

  • Post your like on Twitter
  • Post your like on your Tumblr or your blog
  • For video campaigns, create and upload a video on YouTube

You must post all Sponsored likes using the MyLikes system. We only credit valid clicks and views.

How often can I publish a like?

Our system limits you to a few times per day. If you post too many likes in your stream overall, the limits may be stricter. You don’t want to post too many likes, or your audience may get tired of them, and unfollow you. Also, users who post too frequently tend to lower their social score, because the quality of their clicks go down.

Do I have to use the MyLikes url provided?

We ask that all likes originate via the MyLikes.com interface, so we can better track performance. If you post a like without going through MyLikes.com, you may not get paid for those clicks, and we might disapprove the post.

Why was my like disapproved?

At any point, an approved sponsored like may be disapproved by the advertiser. Reasons for disapproval could include:

  • The advertiser feels that the Like is not relevant to your audience.
  • The advertiser feels that the Like is misrepresenting the product or service.
  • The advertiser feels that the Like is too generic and is not descriptive of the product or service.
  • You have used hate speech / abuse / full capital letters to write your Sponsored Like.
  • Your twitter stream contains adult content.
  • You deleted the Sponsored Like / Tweet after posting it.
  • While we strive to ensure that you are presented with valid campaigns from quality advertisers. Every once in a while there may be a spammy or fraudulent advertiser whose campaign we will have deactivate and remove your post. We also encourage you to review the advertiser link before posting it.

Generally, your post should describe the advertiser’s product/service accurately. If your post misleads your audience, your post will be disapproved.

Sponsored Text    back to top

How can I post sponsored text?

You have to post Sponsored Likes through our system. MyLikes can automatically post sponsored likes to your Twitter or Tumblr account using our system. If you host your blog on a different service, we also have an embed code that we can provide you. That being said, clicks from E-mails or DMing on Twitter do NOT qualify.

Can I tweet a campaign multiple times?

Yes, but only if you go through the MyLikes.com interface. You cannot copy and paste your tweet and post it again. The MyLikes.com interface also offers you a way to repeat-post automatically, for example, to automatically re-post each day for 3 days.

How does RTing a sponsored ad work?

RTing a Sponsored Like from another publisher when you already created a Sponsored Like for that campaign is not allowed. Similarly, once you RT a Sponsored Like, you cannot then go back and create a Sponsored Like for the same campaign.

When can I delete a sponsored tweet or post?

You cannot delete or remove Sponsored Likes / Tweets from your account / timeline.

Sponsored Videos    back to top

How can I create a sponsored video?

Sign up on MyLikes and connect your YouTube account to your MyLikes account. We will show you video campaigns relevant to your channel. Choose any campaign you like, create a video and upload it. MyLikes will automatically upload it for you to your YouTube channel. You can always go back to YouTube to edit video details.

What is the deadline to post my video?

Each campaign has a strict deadline for when videos can be posted. If you have accepted getting paid for a sponsored video, make sure to upload your video on time. Exact deadlines are listed in each campaign.

Can I combine multiple campaigns in one video?

No, you must create separate videos for each campaign to be compensated accordingly.

How can I edit video details once it's posted?

You can login to MyLikes to manage your sponsored videos. To alter the title or description of a sponsored video, you must login to YouTube the same way you would edit any of your normal videos.

What are the rules to request a sample?

Some advertisers offer samples so you can try out the product in person and talk about it with your audience. If you have enough subscribers and video views on your YouTube channel, you may become eligible for samples.

**You must publish a video promoting the product within 7 days after you receive the sample, or you may lose the ability to request samples in the future.

How should I disclose that I am getting paid for by the video?

Everyone must disclose they are getting paid to make a video in one of the following ways:

  • Check the box when uploading your video and MyLikes will add a disclosure automatically.
  • Mention the sponsorship in your video.
  • Edit the description yourself and to let your viewers know you are getting paid to make the video.

Can my video be disapproved?

While all videos uploaded on MyLikes are typically uploaded to your YouTube channel in a few minutes, your video can be disapproved for any of the following reasons:

  • Your video contains hate speech or pornographic content
  • Your video did not follow the instructions provided by the advertiser
  • You removed the link MyLikes adds to the top of your description.
  • Your video steals content from other MyLikes users or other promotional videos.

**Advertisers have the right to disapprove any video they feel is a bad fit for their campaign.

Getting Paid    back to top

When and how do I get paid?

There are 2 ways to get paid. You can choose to be paid through Paypal or an Amazon gift card. If you haven't already, you can specify your Paypal account here. Once you have specified your Paypal account, any pending balance over $1.00 will be transferred to your Paypal account every Friday. You will be paid for the views in the one week period after your video has been uploaded. You can look here to review your account. Funds accrued on Fridays will need to be in the account until the next Friday to be transferred. In case you don't have a Paypal account, we will send you an Amazon gift card instead. The Amazon gift card will be sent via email to the email address you specify.

How quickly should I upload a video when I see a new campaign?

Because campaigns have limited budgets set by the advertiser, it is imperative to upload your video as quickly as possible, although you can also choose to save the campaign for one week. Currently we have a large and growing number of YouTube producers, so the sooner you are able to produce your video the better. Please don't compromise on quality, but you must upload the video before the campaign ends to receive payment.

Does everyone get the same Cost-Per-Click/Cost-Per-View?

No. A combination of factors determine how much a publisher is paid for a given campaign, including your MyLikes Quality Score(tm), whether you've received a free sample from advertisers, etc.

Am I getting paid for all of my clicks?

Since the advertiser pays MyLikes (and in turn, we pay you) for legitimate visits to their website, you will be paid only the clicks that provide value to the advertiser. A legitimate click does not include, among other reasons, repeated manual clicks or impressions, automated click and impression generating tools and the use of robots or deceptive software. Any clicks that are gained through those illegitimate means are not paid to anyone by the advertiser, including MyLikes.

What counts as spam?

We have multiple spam detection techniques and look at many aspects of a click and video-view. The following policies must be adhered to at all times:

  • Publishers may not click on their own likes or use any means to inflate impressions and/or clicks artificially, including manual methods (we detect and discount these clicks). Clicks on Sponsored Likes must result from genuine user interest. Any method that artificially generates clicks or impressions on your Sponsored Likes is strictly prohibited. These prohibited methods include, but are not limited to, repeated manual clicks or impressions, automated click and impression generating tools and the use of robots or deceptive software.
  • Sponsored Likes may not ask others to click their likes or use deceptive implementation methods to obtain clicks. This includes, but is not limited to, offering compensation to users for clicking on Sponsored Likes.
  • Placing Sponsored Likes from any place other than Twitter, Tumblr or YouTube is prohibited.

Not complying with the above policies or our terms and conditions will result in immediate suspension and possible termination of your account.

Are taxes taken out of my payments?

We send you the proper forms informing you of your tax obligation.

Quality Score    back to top

Why is my quality score important?

Your quality score determines your success using our site. The more you engage with your audience in a relevant and meaningful way, the higher your quality score. If your clicks are coming from an audience that cares about what you're talking about, you'll see your rewards will greatly increase.

How does MyLikes calculate my quality score?

The quality score measures how effective you are when you advertise something. Your score will be higher if you have a high-quality audience, and choose likes that are targeted to your audience, and deliver real value to them. The score is continuously calculated based on the performance of your past likes. It is not based on the NUMBER of clicks necessarily, but rather on the QUALITY of those clicks and the text you wrote for that like.

My score is low- How can I raise it?

We continuously adjust our formulas to make the score accurately reflect how good your likes are. If your score went down significantly, it’s most likely because the performance of your recent likes was lower than before. This could happen if you use misleading text, or “linkbait,” that is designed to trick your audience into clicking without them really understanding what they’re clicking on. The bottom line is that if you make sure that you don't spam your audience and pick likes that they genuinely find interesting, you will make more money in the long term. Creating irrelevant sponsored likes that are not effective for our advertisers will result in your payment-per-click being lowered.

Which campaigns show up on my profile?

Why is my account suspended?

Your MyLikes account may be suspended for any of the following reasons:

  • Creating fake accounts or gaming our referral program
  • Click/View spam - including tweeting the like multiple times, using some other software to tweet our links, asking your friends to click on our ads, excessive re-tweeting
  • Falsely representing our advertisers in order to generate clicks
  • Only Tweeting ads or creating ad-specific twitter accounts
  • Creating Sponsored Likes and deleting them on twitter
  • Consistently creating videos and posts that are irrelevant to your audience
  • Asking your friends to re-tweet your likes on a regular basis
  • If your twitter stream contains porn, hate, automated or abusive content
  • If your twitter account has only automated low quality content and no engagement
  • If your twitter account gets suspended, your MyLikes account will automatically get revoked.

Most suspensions are permanent, but if you think there’s been a mistake, email help@mylikes.com and explain your case, including your Twitter name, your MyLikes accounts, what you think caused your suspension, and why you should be unsuspended.

Can I delete my account?

You can go to your settings page and delete your account by following the delete link. Please note that all your account information including your current account balance will be lost and you may not be able to register the connected Twitter or Facebook account back to MyLikes in the future.

Determining Cost-Per-Click and Cost-Per-View    back to top

Why is Cost-Per-Click Estimated?

Our advertisers and your audience have a common interest in keeping your content high-quality and focused on your target audience. In order to reward users whose feeds are relevant and high-quality, we've premiered the feature of offering flexible cost-per-click, which benefits publishers who are especially good at targeting and growing their audiences. The estimated cost-per-click we give is based on an average of how the campaign has done historically - increase your engagement and see an increase in your cost-per-click. However, if your audience isn't particularly engaged with your content, you may see your cost-per-click suffer.

What factors into Cost-Per-Click calculations?

Our systems use about about 30 factors to determine cost-per-click including click-through rate, number of retweets/reposts, amount of follower engagement, follower geo-location, follower affluence, tweet frequency, and a number of others. The best way to increase your cost-per-click pricing is to offer the most compelling, relevant ads to your audience.

Why is Cost-Per-View Estimated?

Just as in text campaigns, our advertiser and your audience have a common interest in keeping your video content high-quality and focused. In order to reward publishers whose videos are relevant and high-quality, we've premiered the feature of offering flexible cost-per-view, which benefits publishers who are especially good at targeting and growing their audiences. The estimated cost-per-view we give is based on an average of how the campaign has done historically - increase your engagement and see an increase in your cost-per-view. However, if your audience isn't particularly engaged with your content, you may see your cost-per-view suffer.

What factors into Cost-Per-View calculations?

Similar to text campaigns, our systems use several factors to determine cost-per-view for video campaigns. The best way to increase your cost-per-view pricing is to offer the most compelling, relevant video content to your audience.
