In search of the truth, in spite of obscurantism and tyranny

I'm not usually a fiction reader, but this book was so well written, and the story so interesting, I couldn't put it down, and was actually sad to reach the end!
from eyebee bindu - I have read a couple of Ken Follett books and really liked them
katkimjac - oh yes, am still reading it.. just stuff keeps getting in the way! but its very good!
See the circus from the perspective of a circus worker. Get carried away by the passions and drama that play out under the Big Tent. A fun read!

This book has everything - mystery, suspense, love, etc. I recommended it to a friend who was looking for a Christmas present for his mom, and she loved it! So I think my recommendation is spot on :)
from thatswhatjesaid tima - Jeanna, I've added "The Thirteenth Tale" to my TBR list.

This is a book with amazing heart-wrenching about the plights of black women who used to work as maids before the civil war broke out. Reminds you of the classics like "Gone with the wind" and "to kill a mockingbird"

Terrific, moving book that will teach you a lot about the Holocaust

Long before there were little British wizards and before there were vampires there was The Mists of Avalon. A book all teenage girls should read. And grown up girls as well.

This is a really cool story instead of describing the men in the usual sense, it describes them by the things they are carrying, bother literally and figuratively. In creative writing in college, we used this story as an exercise to create our own characters with things they carry.

johnnobi liked this entryjohnnobi - I've read a lot of books about Vietnam and the Vietnam war, but this is my favourite 'fiction' piece, by volunteer footsoldier-turned-Harvard prof, Tim O'Brien.
For the first time in a long time, I couldn't put a book down... this one. The characters were so vivid and the story was fascinating. It reminded me somewhat of a fictional 84 Charing Cross Road of which I have read over and over again. It's nice to find a readable book without all the uber-angst that is in non-genre fiction lately.

By achieving this level of authenticity in his costume reproductions, Cooke strives to bring the past to life. "I try to take the dry, dusty bones of history and breathe life into them," he says.

Based in Roman and Gallic history, but with plenty of more modern themes, this comic entertains on many levels.

Very interesting story based in Napoleonic era Europe but in an alternate world where dragons exist and serve men in battle as airborne ships. Literally. Not just one rider per dragon (at least for the heavy combat species). Dragon has a ground crew for maintenance and flight crew that serve as riflemen and bomb throwers.
from ronin iapetus999 - I thought it was pretty good and well-researched. I would have liked a bit more love interest but I guess this is more targeted towards the younger audience. Makes me want my own dragon though.
Each summer we open our home go visitors who enjoy green, open spaces, woods and waterfalls. When visiting Vermont a B&B is the place to stay.
