Holden Caufield catches your attention from the first page. He is different, strong-willed, loving and misunderstood. Reading this book with my teens helped to initiate conversations about what it's like to be a teen in a world the looks at grades rather than the emotional trauma they may be going through.

This inspirational fable by Brazilian author and translator Coelho has been a runaway bestseller throughout Latin America and seems poised to achieve the same prominence here. The charming tale of Santiago, a shepherd boy, who dreams of seeing the ...

sexy_kaye - Its very inspirational..lets you dream and just believe.
I wonder how much research Dan Brown had to put in to make such a master piece. The movie didnot do enough justice to the original story. I would recommend the book rather than the movie....

Kite flying as a sport was new to me. It was very interesting to read about life of children and their activities when war was not directly effecting them.
Other sections of the book were more difficult to read and I would caution parent to read this book first before offering it to children or teens.

this is one of my all time favorite books and movies...."sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken" is my favorite quote
from lilith - liked from rocksupreme's entry perkins - Awesome book that explains a little more than the movie.
I particularly love the opening sentence of this novel -- "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife."
Indeed this opening sentence has been claimed as the greatest in ...

Had to read this one on High School!...have re-read it about 10 times since then. Great story about the ups and downs (mostly downs!) of a very dysfunctional family spanning (you guessed it!) a hundred years.

Now, I consider this film the highlight of Jack Nicholson's illustrious career. Milos Forman's film adaptation about a man charged of a crime but placed in a mental institution was a run-away winner in the Oscars. The story was engaging (God I hate that nurse Ratched) and acting were great. You could see the young Danny De Vito here as one of the mental patients.
from quick24 sn9500 - This was one of high school's must reads. A classic....
quesea - Reminds me of a hospital where I used to work
catwoman1459 - This is a classic, Jack at his best.
sittonbull - Well Jack is a special personality who a good producer could build many films around, so anything he's in will be outstanding as this was! Kesey's best book, and an excellent film also, in my opinion is Sometimes a Great Notion. Not a bad cast there either with Newman, Fonda and Lee Remick.
Reminded me of "Lolita" and "Snow Falling on Cedars" in that you are just as aware of how incredibly well-written it is as you are of the story, and the story is good while being slightly twisted.

Beautifully written, and puts forward the power and dignity of Afghani women. A suspenseful tale, and moving too. Only the hardest heart cannot be moved by this story. I really could not put down the book.
from cathie cathie - I couldn't put down the book. A suspenseful tale, a powerful book.
Kind of slow toward the middle, but the intensity certainly picks up as you near the end! One of my favorite novels. The premise is original and thought provoking: the struggle of Old Gods to survive in America against the growth of New Gods of technology, communication, money, etc.

Imagine the horror of being one of the few survivors in the world after many die from the flu. Now the fight for survival begins. Master of unthinkable horror, gives me the chills.

The only book which tells you a sad story that at times becomes humorous, passionate, nostalgic as well.

Great love story. I of course read the English translation, but Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a great story teller whose magic is not lost in translation.

The White Tiger is a fast paced thriller, written in the unique voice of its central character. It is written as a first-person narration by "Balram Halwai", a self-described entrepreneur in Bangalore, about how he came to be successful.
from shikhar pegasus156 - wonderfully written story ,about a man ,its a rag to riches story

I love nano. I began participating a couple years ago and put my own musical twist on it: I aimed to write 50k seconds of music. Although I've yet to reach 50k, I've come close to the halfway mark. It's made Novembers my most idea-pouring month of the year. Last year I did try writing and wrote a bunch of unfinished short stories. It went a helluva lot better than I imagined possible! Nano is THE best tool for creative self discovery no matter how you approach it.

As a kid, I used to walk down the cereal aisle at Piggly Wiggly and look at the Wheaties boxes to see if there was anyone on there I knew (like from my town). Guess I was a small town girl with a small town mentality, well at that time anyhow.
