If we were to eat just locally that would be easier on the environment. We wouldn't need those big trucks carting our food across America which would mean a lot less pollution. For example, Manghi's Bread, a bakery in Montpelier. They have their friends and neighbors help them make local deliveries of their food, so that they don't have to hire people to drive those shipping trucks around. They do this because it's way easier on the environment.

Burbee Pond is hidden away in a remote area of Windham, Vermont. Created by a dam built for logging it reflects the bright colors of autumn, shimmers in the summer sun, is blanketed by fog in the spring and covered in ice in the winter.
from evelynsaenz sittonbull - The many faces of Burbee Pond reminds me of the farm pond below my house. Wonderful!
Take a cruise on Lake Champlain to look for Champy the lake monster. Swim in the summer or ice skate in the winter. Lake Champlain is a wonderful lake to enjoy.

The common in Townshend is still a place for kids to play baseball, tag or jumprope. One of the most picturesque parks in New England, Townshend Common is one of my favorite parks.

Among the exhibits featured at the Museum are mounted specimens of over 600 native
New England birds and mammals in 100 small dioramas. Our favorites are the large number of albino animals from squirrels and deer to birds and snakes.

In the movie a retired dairy farmer, also named Fred Tuttle, runs for Congress because, well, he needs the money. "I spent all my time in the barn," the fictional Fred tells voters. "I'd just like to spend a little time in the House." With no platform and little money, the sweet but mischievous Fred beats the incumbent by one vote. The movie became a state art-house hit and Tuttle a star, SPREAD FRED bumper stickers pasted to cars zipping along I-89.

Woodchucks chuck wood and Groundhogs determine the coming of spring. They eat your garden, dig holes under the porch but look adorable when they are first born and start to venture out of their dens.

The only kind of syrup to put on your pancakes is pure Vermont Maple Syrup. I loved making syrup with my grandfather as a child and my kids love making it with their grandfather each spring.
from evelynsaenz quesea - I love making waffles for our grandchildren. Maple syrup is a must.
When you are driving up Route 30 through Newfane, Vermont you absolutely must stop at Dutton Berry Farm. Their berries are delicious but they also make their own pies and sell other local produce and baked goods. They always have something special no matter which season you visit.

Walk down the hill from the University of Vermont and stroll across the grass of Battery Park to watch the sunset. Munch on french fries sprinkled with vinegar sold from the Bus that's always parked on the north side. Watch out for quick moving thunder storms coming across the lake from Plattsburg.

The common in Royalton is surrounded by buildings from a different time. The Old Meeting House houses the historical society. The one room schoolhouse and Episcopal Church are no longer in use. The Academy building is used for suppers and the old bank turned into a library is only used occasionally for book sales. It seems that the only living thing left is the common where grass still grows green in summer and footprints create paths through the snow in winter.

Aside from sugar, salt and vanilla extract, our basic crepe is a 100% local product! Before we opened the restaurant in 2006, the Church St cart was the first vending cart ever in the Vermont Fresh Network. Also, in keeping with our commitment to sustainability, our primary vehicles all run off of biodiesel and waste vegetable oil.
